The product has a proven record in many countries worldwide and is being
launched in the UK as ROMAX RAT CP. Based on the special 'soft block'
formulation, never seen in the UK before, this bait has proved to be
particularly attractive to rats. Indeed tests have shown it to be preferred to
cereal-based baits. As a block, however, it is 'non-spill' and can be secured
in place. The active ingredient is coumatetralyl at a level of 0.0375% w/w
which, when formulated in such a palatable formulation, has out-performed many
existing products in extensive field trials. It has proved to be effective
against both the 'good feeders' and the more difficult-to-control 'hesitant
feeders' in the rat population, leading to excellent levels of
control.
It has long been recognised that products based on this active
pose a much lower risk of secondary poisoning, especially to predatory birds.
Anyone with concerns about baiting where there are known populations of Barn
Owls, Red Kites and other birds of prey can use this bait in the knowledge that
they are most unlikely to cause any problems, if used correctly.
The
active has been proven to control some strains of Rats resistant to other first
generation anticoagulants and in most situations is as effective as some of the
early 2nd generation actives, such as bromadiolone but with the benefit of being
less persistent in the environment.

We would also like to take the opportunity to reproduce the following letter we received form Prokil Managing Director, Justin Holloway
In May 2009 we were called to a high end development in Oxford
that was suffering from a significant rat problem. Rats had gained access to
the internal building infrastructure by way of breeches in the sub surface
foundations. Whilst this is often the case in Block & Beam style
constructions, the main issue was that badgers had tunnelled under the
apartments and made rodent access particularly easy.
The location is bounded by a railway line, the Oxford
Canal, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a nature
corridor. Water voles are also present and it was clear that any
attempt to control the rat problem would need to embrace measures that reduce
the risk of secondary poisoning.
It was also clear that an engagement with Natural England and
the Badger Conservancy Trust would be advisable.
After consultation, a control scheme was agreed by all
parties and was quickly deployed. The willingness to proceed was largely
aided by the availability of a product such as Romax CP. We have now
completed several months of treatments and have logged the activity levels at
each and every control point.
What we have noted to date is:
1.
In comparison to our
experience with ******Blocks, ****** or any other prep, the time taken to feed
on Romax CP is markedly reduced.
2.
The take rates are
much more aggressive.
3.
Based on the quickly
declining consumption, it is effective.
I have recently invited the Natural England officer to the site
to review the site and our findings and she has been suitably impressed.
Rat CP was also recently featured on SKY's Farming Sunday- a shortened version can be viewed here
